Sleeve a Message’s Sleeve U and nuCuisine, powered by Sodexo, announced that its partnership for a sustainable tree planting coffee sleeve program at Northwestern University had entered its third year. Sleeve U, a product offering from Sleeve a Message, is designed for university campuses to communicate messages on their circulation of coffee sleeves, while nuCuisine is Northwestern University’s unique and innovative campus meal program.
Northwestern University currently uses about 100,000 coffee sleeves per year and was one of the first campuses to adopt the program and is on course for Sleeve a Message to plant over 45 trees on their behalf by the end of the 2013-2014 academic year. Jason Sophian, head of the marketing department at nuCuisine explains, “It is great to see Sodexo, an industry leader, work with inventive startups like Sleeve a Message. We value the enhancement to campus engagement and positive sustainable impact the partnership with Sleeve a Message continues to bring.”
Sleeve a Message partners with the Forest ReLeaf of Missouri (FRM) and plants a tree for every 7,000 sleeves produced. Executive Director of FRM, Donna Coble notes, “We are proud to see our trees working to offset the carbon footprint at Northwestern University and are honored to be part of this effort.”
David Dresner, founder of Sleeve a Message and former student of Northwestern University, commented, “When we first partnered with Northwestern, we sought out to develop a sleeve messaging program and have grown the relationship with a sustainability effort that is simple and effective in reducing the impact of disposable packaging.”
